Indio, California The Visionary High Desert Retreat An oasis for golfers, thanks to the beautiful Indian Palms Country Club, Indio is just 40 km (25 miles) from Palm Springs. The Southern Pacific railway’s halfway point between Yuma, Arizona and Los Angeles, Indio has always been an Oasis of fun, sun and desert hi-jinx, but today’s Indio has definitely taken a turn toward sophisticated fun. That follows the world-famous every-December “Indio International Tamale Festival.” Both the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival, and the Southwest Arts Festival round out a year that is incredibly lively and Cinco de Mayo festivities make every May just a little hotter. Year round, it’s a sophisticated, cultured part of the world. Multiple museums and concert venues complement the theme parks, shopping centers and attractions that make it a popular and refreshing visit.
