Attractions and activities

Lisbon, the Portuguese capital is a city of Seven Hills, most beautiful for its architecture, cobbled streets, sloped hills and monuments from centuries gone by. It’s a city to be walked and enjoyed slowly over many days. Limestone buildings, opulent churches, and history-filled museums all tell a story and it’s one to be savored.

Portuguese cuisine is unique and oriented to the sea. Visitors sample the salted cod, clams, prawns, and grilled sardines, and all with an excellent tradition of wine. Served overlooking the Atlantic Ocean, wine is an essential accompaniment to any experience of Lisbon.

The Torre de Belem, declared a UNESCO World Heritage site, is a symbol of the city. The lookout points offer incredible panoramas and guests frequently head to the Los Jerónimos monastery on the same afternoon. Here, the Baroque lives on in architecture that will leave you speechless. The nearby pastry shop has, since 1837, baked Belem pastries, among the most famous in the city. Guests also quickly learn to love the wooden trams still running through the main streets of the city, as they’ll allow you to quickly discover many of the most dramatic corners of the capital.
