Attractions and activities

Salta is a province in Argentina’s north and is one of the places most visited by Argentinians. With an evident and long history, it’s nicknamed "Salta la Linda," and was founded in the 16th century by the Spanish. Their influence is reflected throughout the historic center in a wealth of colonial architecture.

A walk along the streets of the center is rewarded by the 9 de Julio plaza, a tribute to Argentina’s independence. The Museum of High Mountain Archaeology allows one to appreciate the most important discoveries of the Inca civilization of more than 500 years ago. Cable car rides offer breathtaking views of Cerro San Bernardo, and of course, most visitors will enjoy the city’s many sidewalk cafes and plazas.
