Puerto Plata (officially known as San Felipe de Puerto Plata) is the ninth largest city in the Dominican Republic and the capital of Puerto Plata’s province. For spectacular views of the city, climb “Pico Isabel de Torres”, which is more than 2,600 feet high. Do you like learning about history? Visit San Felipe Fortress, which was built in the 16th century and served as a prison under the dictatorship of Rafael Trujillo. You can also visit “Museo del Ámbar”, a museum with a unique collection of valuable Dominican amber, a semi-precious tree sap that has hardened over millions of years and has captured many plant and insect fossils. Providing cruise passengers with easy transportation was one of the main goals in developing Amber Cove.
