On the inland side of Cancun lies Laguna Nichupte, a vast lagoon that serves as home to numerous marinas, waterfront restaurants, shopping malls, a couple of golf courses, a few islands, inlets and some fantastic sunsets.

There is an area near the center of all which is known as the Party Zone, home to many nightclubs and discos. This very same area is also home to some of Cancun's best restaurants and upper-end shopping malls. Downtown Cancun has great restaurants, modern shopping facilities and it's an alternative diversion to all of glitz that surrounds the tourist zone.

Puerto Vallarta, Jalisco

Puerto Vallarta offers an extremely wide variety of attractions! You will be amazed with the variety of choices from golf, whale watching, and ecotourism. The town offers many choices in water sport activities, sightseeing excursions, art exhibits, sand cultural events, as well as tropical jungle getaways, sailboats, shopping and discos. It has the look and charm of a colonial Mexican village with its picturesque buildings, cobblestone streets and old Spanish-colonial style.

The town became world famous in 1964 when Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton stayed there during the filming of Tennessee Williams' "Night of the Iguana." Puerto Vallarta was not a planned resort town. The press followed the couple, and many reporters began writing about the beauty and charm of the region. Thereafter, the town began receiving an increasingly large number of visitors and investments in tourist facilities and infrastructure were made.

Acapulco, Guerrero

What Acapulco undoubtedly has going for it, is its stunning bay: a sweeping scythe-stroke of yellow sand backed by the white towers of the high-rise hotels and, behind them, the green jungle foothills of the Sierra. Even though there are hundreds of thousands of people here throughout the year, most of the big hotels remain nearly full - it rarely seems oppressively crowded. Certainly there's always space to lie somewhere along the beach, partly because of its sheer size, partly because of the number of rival attractions from hotel pools to parasailing and "romantic" cruises.

By day, if people aren't at the beach or asleep, they're mostly shopping. If you only do one thing in Acapulco, though, make sure you see its most celebrated spectacle, the leap of the daredevil high divers at La Quebrada. About the only place in Acapulco that gives even the slightest sense of the historic role the city played in Mexico's past is the Acapulco Museum in the old town. It's situated inside the Fuerte de San Diego, an impressive, if heavily restored, star-shaped fort built in 1616 to protect the Manila galleons from foreign corsairs.

Along the Costera, downtown is packed with shops, restaurants and a futuristic discos. It is also home to the Centro Cultural, which has an art gallery, a crafts store and a theatre and also hosts a regular program of cultural events with a regional bias. Geared up for bored kids, the Parque Papagayo on Costera at Playa Hornos, offers boating, roller-skating and fairground rides. Further east round the bay, near the Centro Acapulco, the aquatic park CICI has water-based rides and puts on dolphin shows. Your kids will love it!

San Jose del Cabo, Baja California Sur

The combination of ocean, desert and mountains combine to make Los Cabos an intriguing and beautiful destination. In and around the surrounding area there are many quaint Mexican villages, towns, and points of interest. If you're vacationing on the Baja Peninsula, San Jose del Cabo boasts great beaches. Fronting on the beautiful Gulf of California, San Jose del Cabo offers outstanding swimming, kayaking, water skiing, Jet Ski jaunts and Scuba diving and snorkeling. The warm, clear waters will beckon to you, and you'll find it hard to tear yourself away!

Whether you want to add to your list of birds spotted or watch pods of dolphins frolic, the inviting weather makes the estuary a year-round nature hot spot. There are motor tours available, or you can pack a picnic lunch and explore.

Nature tours are one great component for the ideal family vacation, and there's plenty of other things to keep all ages entertained. Ixtapa, Guerrero

For the more adventurous, experience some of the best water sports on the southwest coast of Mexico. The Marina has a handful of restaurants and a nice ambience. Playa El Palmar is Ixtapa's main beach. It boasts great views, wide sandy beaches, interesting offshore rock formations, parasailing, beach runners willing to bring you just about anything you desire, touts selling jewelry, handcrafts and all the rest. Isla Ixtapa (Isla Grande) offers a series of small beaches connected by secluded paths. Playa Varadero is the main beach. Great seafood, safe waters for swimming and jet skiing and some pretty exotic views.

Horse drawn carriage rides are available through the calm streets. There's a water park next door to the Ixtapa Palace hotel with some very serious water slide action.

Huatulco, Oaxaca

Hidden along the beautiful coast of Oaxaca, you'll find Bahias de Huatulco, a jewel of a resort, developed with an eye toward ecological preservation. Located at the southern tip of the Southern Sierra Madre Mountain range, known for its high, rugged mountains and deep, fertile valleys, the area is surrounded by waterfalls, rivers, and wondrous mountainous landscapes. During May through December, the vegetation is a lush jungle green, offering a great variety of eco-tourism activities to give you full contact with the wonders of nature.

In Bahias de Hutaulco you'll find some of the best beach resorts here. As you travel from east to west, you come to Conejos Bay first. It is not yet developed and is protected by steep cliffs. Here you can surf or walk across the short ridge and snorkel on Playa Maguey, where you'll find a small beautiful coral reef and rock formations. Tangolunda Bay is one of the principal bays and home to five-star resort hotels and shopping areas. The beautiful 18-hole golf course is located there in the midst of a natural setting of lakes and sand traps.

You will also find Playa La Entrega on this bay. The beaches here are great for swimming. La Entrega has a great coral reef just offshore for easy snorkeling.

Harness the wind and sail the sea on the 44-foot sailboat at Luna Azul. It's a one of a kind sailing experience found in Huatulco, where you can let soft breezes take you away.

Orlando, FL.

Orlando is known as a family vacation destination but it's also a great place for singles, girlfriend getaways and romantic couple weekends. San Francisco, CA.

Today, San Francisco is a popular international tourist destination, renowned for its chilly summer fog, steep rolling hills, eclectic mix of Victorian and modern architecture and its famous landmarks, including the Golden Gate Bridge, cable cars, and Chinatown. The city is also a principal banking and finance center, and the home to more than 30 international financial institutions.

San Francisco's bustling Chinatown is a tightly-packed warren of Chinese restaurants, shops, temples and street vendors. Take an early morning walk down "Fish Alley" to see fisherman at work. Later, the Wharf is boardwalk-style family entertainment with decidedly tourist attractions such as Ripley's Believe It or Not! Museum, the Red & White Fleet, a the Wax Museum. Drive, bike, or walk across the two-mile long suspension bridge or get down to the base and look up from the tide pools at Baker's Beach or from a Frisbee toss at Crissy fields, both in the adjoining Presidio.

San Diego, CA.

With its temperate climate, more than 70 miles of pristine beaches, world-class attractions, captivating arts and culture scene, and endless dining and shopping options, San Diego offers endless choices for pre- and post-cruise itineraries. It may surprise you to know that there are over 30 museums in San Diego, and that only one of them is dedicated to surfing.

With 15 museums and 9 theatres and performing arts centers, Balboa Park is San Diego's cultural heart. "The Smithsonian of the West," houses its treasures among green expanses, cultivated gardens and Spanish Colonial Architecture, making it a magical place to spend the day. The San Diego Natural History Museum. See old masters from Rembrandt to Rubens in the intimate Timken Museum of Art.

The Air & Space Museum to marvel at the actual Apollo 9 Command Module spacecraft. Theatre lovers would be amiss not to try to catch the latest show at The Old Globe, one of the most esteemed regional theatres in the country. In and of itself, Balboa Park holds enough wonderful sights and experiences to fill an entire vacation. Next, head up the coast to the Museum of Contemporary Art, San Diego in La Jolla. As if the surrounding ocean views weren't inspiring enough, the permanent collection at MCASD includes more than 4,000 works created after 1950. Painting, sculpture, photography, video, film and installation art are all represented.

Don't miss Nancy Rubins' site-specific installation, "Pleasure Point," a colorful accumulation of rowboats, canoes, jet skis and surfboards that practically burst off the west side of the building. The latest edition to San Diego's art scene is the wonderful New Children's Museum in downtown. One of the oldest LGBT theatres in the country, Diversionary Theatre produces edgy dramatic productions and playful musicals with gay, lesbian and bisexual themes, located in University Heights. The San Diego Symphony Orchestra presents world-class orchestral works year-round, including a popular outdoor Summer Pops series; the symphony performs in Copley Symphony Hall in downtown San Diego. The San Diego Opera, Southern California's longest established opera company, presents the world's finest talent in lavish productions at the San Diego Civic Theatre in downtown San Diego.

Breckenridge, CO.

Breckenridge Ski Resort continues to be one of the most visited places in Colorado. But summer is not to be forgotten. Locals always say, "I came for the winters and stayed for the summers." Winter brings unique events to the Victorian town of Breckenridge, which bustles with an independent dining scene, a thriving arts district and of course, plenty of snow. In addition to outdoors play –think snowshoeing, dog sledding, sleigh rides and more– a season-long events line-up features one-of-a-kind celebrations with massive snow sculptures, parades in the name of snowfall and spring skiing parties.

Atlantic City, NJ.

Atlantic City is known as a “Casino City” because of all the major casinos in the area as gambling was legalized in Atlantic City in 1976. Even though casinos are a main part of the city, there are a lot of other things to do in Atlantic City.

People flock to the world's first Boardwalk, which offers great food, shopping, and entertainment. There are very interesting museums and it is a great place to people watch. Just taking a stroll along the beach, and especially the boardwalk, is a delight in Atlantic City. There is great food throughout the city whether it is International food or good old American food.

If gambling is your thing than Atlantic City is definitely the place to be with the many casinos that offer all the classic casino games such as blackjack, roulette, craps, poker, and of course the slots.

Kauai, HI.

Kauai is Hawaii's Garden Isle, known for its lush foliage, beautiful flowers and long white sand beaches. Kauai is the oldest of the main Hawaiian Islands. It's the perfect island for a honeymoon or romantic getaway, but also a great place for a family vacation. A must see for all visitors to Kauai is the amazing Waimea Canyon. Ten miles long, two miles wide and 3,600 feet deep, Mark Twain nicknamed Waimea Canyon the "Grand Canyon of the Pacific." With its deep reds, greens and browns, each created by a different volcanic flow over centuries, many feel that is much more colorful than the Grand Canyon, and I'm one of them.

Koke'e State Park is over 4,000 acres with about 45 hiking trails some of which head into Waimea Canyon and some of which are short hikes to non-canyon overlooks. The Koke'e Museum is well worth a stop.
